About Eileen

A smiling middle-aged woman with short curly brown hair sitting on a dark gray upholstered chair in a cozy, well-decorated living room. She is wearing a white long-sleeve top and a blue pendant necklace. In the background, there is a white fireplace, a large mirror above it, and white bookshelves filled with books and decorative items on the sides.

In brief…

Eileen Vamos is an author, freelance journalist, meditation teacher and sound healer.

As a journalist, she has worked on community newspapers in Melbourne and her stories have appeared in natural health magazines, Medical Observer and the Herald Sun. She has been an editorial consultant for the National Ageing Research Institute.

Stepping out on the spiritual path, Eileen trained as a meditation teacher with DRU Australasia. She also completed DRU’s sound and mantra course, and has a Certificate IV in Crystal Sound Therapy.

In her book, Small Steps to Healing: How Ten Women Transformed Their Lives, Eileen brings together her skills as a journalist and meditation teacher – simple meditations, in both written and audio formats, accompany the women’s stories.

A little more...

My dream was to be a newspaper journalist so in my early 30s, I completed a Bachelor of Arts at Deakin University, majoring in journalism and creative writing.

Within months, my dream manifested when I phoned the editor of a local newspaper group – he had a vacancy and offered me a job.

As a journalist, I enjoyed being enveloped in women’s wisdom and hearing their personal, sporting and creative dreams. I also enjoyed interviewing creative souls for an arts page.

One actor was particularly memorable. He confided that he meditated and was happier and more creative but he didn’t want this mentioned in the story. It was the early 1990s and meditation was still on the fringe.

However, the actor’s passion captivated me and soon I was learning to meditate. As I advanced in my practice, I felt drawn to become a meditation teacher.

During the past twenty years I have enjoyed guiding many women to connect with themselves on a deeper level and awaken to love, joy and peace.

I hope my book, Small Steps to Healing: How Ten Women Transformed Their Lives, will also inspire women to create change so they are able to live their lives more fully.

Although I have lived in Melbourne most of my life, I’m now on the Sunshine Coast with my husband, Tom – a domestic angel who keeps the house in order while I write and teach meditation.

And when I’m with our lively mini-labradoodle, Marley, my inner child comes out to play.
